Dracula: vampires, perversity and Victorian anxieties

This topic explains the history and the characteristics of the vampires, more specifically Dracula, Bram Stoker.  His book reflects the fears of immigration, sexual promiscuity and moral degeneration. They say that the vampire is a complicated creature and a very contradictory figure (alluring/horrifying). Also his ability to move through the streets in London, in this moment he reflects the immigration. The act of vampirism, with its blood, suggests the fear of sexually transmitted illnesses. Literature tends to present the vampire myth as a sexual allegory and in the book there appear two women: Mina and Lucy “the New Woman”.

Edgar Allan Poe was an American writer, poet, critic and editor. He was born on 19th January 1809, in Boston (Massachusetts).

He is famous for his tales and poems of horror and mystery, including The Fall of the House of Usher, The Tell-Tale Heart and The Raven.

3. Did he get married?

Yes, with his cousin Virginia and the couple married in 1836.

4. How did he die?

He died on 7th October 1849 and he died of a great distress.

5. Name some of his most famous works

His famous works were ‘The Black Cat’, ‘The Raven’ and ‘Annabel Lee’.

His main contribution to horror was his frequent use of the subjective camera to reveal a character’s vision.

MY CHRISTMAS MOMENTS

In this post I will talk about Christmas because this year my Christmas was a bit different. I did a lot of things, all of them with my family. I carry many special moments about these days.

The first moment is that I didn’t finish the high school because I didn’t go to the class on the 20th and 21st. But I had my marks, and I was so happy. On 19th I slept in a hotel in Barcelona and next day I took the boat, well, the cruise.

I did the cruise from 20th to 27th of December. I visited lots of important cities and now I have a lot of memories and moments. The first place was Marsella that this day we explored the boat. The second one was Genova, we went down, and we walked a lot to see all the important monuments. Next day we walked around Civitavecchia, a beautiful city that I had been there when I was 10 years old. The following place was Palermo, I love this city and probably I would live there. On the 25th, Christmas day, we made a fast visit to the island of Malta. I liked all the cathedrals and sights a lot , and this was the last stop.

I enjoyed this Christmas a lot, it was so special and different. I love travelling and visiting many things and I can say that it was a perfect holiday.

NYC

One of the things that I would like to do is go to New York City. Is one of my biggest dreams. When I was little I remember that the the surrounding people talked about their trip in New York. I was so surprised for all the moments and places that they said. And I told myself that I will go to NYC, no matter the age, who I’m going with or the year.

The city of New York is the most populated city in the United States of America, and one of the largest in the world. I love that because I know that I will not be bored. It has lots of places, parks, monuments. I would like to walk around the Empire State Building, to see the height and how impressive it is. I know that I will take lots of photos like me and the skyscraper. I would go to Central Park, I wouldn’t go alone, with someone to talk and to spend the time. One thing I would love to do is go to Time Square and if it’s possible on 31st December. If I will have time I’ll visit all NYC like Chinatown, Statue of Liberty, Brooklyn Bridge and a lot of places more.

If I would love the ambient, the people and the city probably I would stay there. And how New York is near to others cities, I would like to visit them like L.A., Las Vegas, Miami, Florida…

HORROR STORY

Many years ago, there was a small village surrounded by forests where a beautiful girl lived. She was too young to know what really happened in her town. At daytime the situation was normal, people did their usually things, but when the night arrived all changed. First started with a very strange howl, like a dog’s howl but with more intensity. The really scare was when on 27th October the people heard shrieks. Immediately came a woman breathless and desperate. In her eyes they could see the concern. She told that she saw a enormous animal with a special teeth. The police searched all night with the hope to find something but they didn’t find the animal. Next day when the woman went to sleep, she saw a shade of a big wolf with a man that had written on his forehead: death.

A HORROR MOVIE

HALLOWEEN 2018

I don’t see this film because I hate horror movie. But I choose that one because is a new movie based on the typical story of what happens on Halloween night.

PLOT

The psychotic Michael Myers (Nick Castle) returns to the big screen in the final showdown. Laurie Strode (Jamie Lee Curtis), who managed to escape her massacre on Halloween night four decades ago, has not forgotten that fateful encounter in which she was the only survivor. That is why, forty years later, Laurie, who is now a grandmother, has turned her house into an impenetrable bunker, in case Myers decided to return one day. When the threat of Myers is a fact, the Strode family, led by three generations of women, grandmother, mother and daughter, will become the only hope to end the villain. The hour of your final confrontation with this terrifying masked figure has arrived.

“Despite its flaws, Halloween is still one of the better sequels to the original timeline. It clips along at a good pace as it hurtles toward the inevitable conflict with an increasing intensity”.

MY HERO

My hero is my mother. I think that she is one of the most important persons in my life. Without her I would not be here.

I look up to my mum because is a person who is always smiling even in the most difficult moments. One thing that I love about my mother is that she always sees the positive side of things even when I don’t see it. She is kind, brave and sometimes she worries too much about me but well is what mothers do.

She is my hero because I have never met a person who has always gone ahead and a person who never give up. A mother who has done the impossible for his daughter. And the thing that makes her a hero is the simple admiration that I have to her.

MALALA'S SPEECH

I have listened Malala's speech and I think that was so inspiring and emotional. She had the honor to speak again about what happened in her life and in the world.

She starts the speech expressing her gratitude to all the people who have helped her and were always with her. The woman mention all the letters, gives, presents, cards that the people gave to her. After she tells “today is not my day, today is the day of every woman, every boy, every girl who have raised their voice for their rights”.

Malala talks about terrorism and the accident she had with one of them. I like when she explains her problem and after she says “nothing changed in my life except this weakness, fear and hopelessness died; strength, power and courage was born”.

She says that the most important things in the world are peace, education and equality. She wants the education of every child and a lot of schools. I think that the phrase “pen is mightier than sword” is very interesting and in my opinion is true.

Finally, she ends with a very famous sentence “one child, one teacher, one pen and one book can change the world”.

MULTIPLE INTELLIGENT QUIZ

My highest percentage is linguistic and interpersonal with a 75%, and my lowest percentage is naturalistic.

LINGUISTIC: I agree with the results because I think that I am a person who likes to write and read and I'm good with it.

LOGICAL-MATHEMATICAL: I'm not very agree with that because I like maths and I think I understand everything at first. But it's true that I don't want to work with it.

VISUAL-SPATIAL: I think that it's okey because I'm not a very original person.

INTRAPERSONAL: I agree with the 56% because I'm a person who knows very well her limitations and herself. But sometimes I doubt about my future or my actions.

INTERPERSONAL: I am good to listen the people and I like when the people explain me their problems. I also love to emphasize with the others and to understand what they want to say.

MUSICAL: I love music, I listen to music everyday and sometimes I cry with the songs. But I think I'll never be able to write a song and even less to sing it.

BODILY-KINESTHETIC: I don't like too much sport and I will never dedicate me to that.

NATURALISTIC: I think that the percentage is true because I just like a bit nature and I prefer the city. I hate biology even that I have curiosity for things.

MY BIGGEST DREAM

My biggest dream has always been travelling around the world. When I was little I watched on the TV the people who go and travel to New York or Miami or Maldivas and I remember that I was impressed. I would travel and visit the most important thing of each country, and see different cultures and new things.

One of the important challenges is to have time to spend it in the different countries. Another obvios challenge, is to have a lot of money: I have to pay the hotel, to pay the food like restaurants and to pay excursions. Also I would like to have a person who comes comes with me.

The most important attitude is to work hard, be optimistic and cheerful to complete all of the tasks, and self-confident. I have to organize well my time and to know my limits. But to fulfill my dream I have to never give up and always be happy.

MY LAST SUMMER HOLIDAY

On my last summer holiday I went to visit Mallorca. I travelled by plane with my family: my mum, my dad, my brother and my little sister.

On 27th August we arrived in Mallorca, well in Palmanova, the location of the hotel. We stayed in this city for eight days. I remember that we went to the beach every day except one day that we visited the center of the island.

An interesting thing that I saw was les coves del Drach, they were very impressive, and they took us by boat to see inside of the caves. Another place that I saw was a beautiful beach without any sand but with crystalline water.

On these holiday I loved swimming in the sea and looking at all the small fishes that came around you. Also I liked walking down the principal street of the center with all the shops and seeing the enormous church. This summer holiday I disliked that we had to drive for approximately an hour to arrive to some of the beaches such as Cala Mesquida an awesome beach. And on the way back we had a delay of two hours.

Next summer I would like to go to Ibiza because I have visited Menorca already, or if it's possible another  country further away with a beach.

ANIMAL IN ME

Broadcaster: I think that it is a good career because I like the radio and the television and I'm not ashamed to appear in the TV.

Insurance agent: This work could be good for me but I don't know if I would enjoy it.

Medical: I disagree with this because I don't like biology neither see a lot of blood. Medical isn't a career for me.

Actor: I love films and series, one of my biggest film is meet an actor and if it is possible work in the world of cinema.

Editor: I have not thought about this option and I don't like it. I do not see myself editing a photo or a book. 

Journalist: It is a good idea because I can travel around the world and report everything that happens, I like it.

Hobbies: 

Eating out: Frequently I go to eat out, in a restaurant with my family because my parents love to go out and I like it too.

Socializing: I'm not a very very social person but I like to have my friends and to be friendly with other people.

Shopping: I love to go shopping with my mum or my friend and go to places like Andorra or La Roca.

Music: Music is one of my favorite hobbies, I listen to music every day and I enjoy it very much.
